Tonight and Forever

The stars shine brighter

when reflected in your eyes.

The way you look at me

gives me butterflies.

Our hearts beat in sync

lips dancing to their rhythm.

Hands holding, roaming, searching

taking with enthusiasm.

Body, mind and soul

with you I share.

Even the broken and hidden parts

to you I bare.

Can we stay like this tonight

entangled in limbs and reverence.

Can we stay like this forever

enveloped in love and tenderness.

Worth the Rain

Haunted by the past
By a love that didn't last

Weighed down by uncertainty
Tormented by anxiety

Passions unmet, left yearning
While the blood inside is burning

Parts hidden, buried, scattered
Others taken, broken, shattered

Storm clouds hid the sun from me
For far too long
Darkening my sky, my world
Till you came along

To appreciate what I have now
I had to endure the pain
You're my shelter and my sun
Baby, you're worth the rain

Words on the screen of a phone
But I no longer feel alone

A door was opened to my soul
You stepped in, I had no control

You left it open for me to step through
So I may always find my way to you

Your voice was music to my ears
A balm to sooth through tears and fears

Storm clouds hid the sun from me
For far too long
Darkening my sky, my world
Till you came along

To appreciate what I have now
I had to endure the pain
You're my shelter and my sun
Baby, you're worth the rain

Green eyes and a shy smile
I could get lost in for a while

A tentative kiss ignites a spark
That builds til its flames extinguish the dark

Your fingers, your lips, play me like the flute
I'm yours, your mine, there is no dispute

The road of life is treacherous
And we will suffer, but it will not break us

Storm clouds hid the sun from me
For far too long
Darkening my sky, my world
Till you came along

To appreciate what I have now
I had to endure the pain
You're my shelter and my sun
Baby, you're worth the rain

My love for you is so strong
There is no doubt where I belong

In your arms is where I want to be
By your side through eternity

Each forged into what the other would need
Healing wounds that had been left to bleed

Our story has just begun
You are my shelter and my sun

Baby, you're worth the rain
Worth the rain

Our Journey

Each of us were forged in to the person the other would need to heal the wounds inflicted by the flames we had endured.

Fitting together like a key into a lock upon a door that opens to a world where gravity's invisible hand feels more like the embrace of a lover and less like a crushing weight atop our chests.

Where the soft kiss of the wind and the warm gaze of the sun can sooth the chaos swirling inside of us so that we may find the path that will lead us to the peaceful calm beyond.

You have welcomed the parts of myself that I had buried, not only accepting them but marveling at their resilience and strength.

The road you have traveled has been dark and paved in grief, and the winding, twisting lanes of healing continue to stretch before us.

I can not take the wheel for you, but I promise to do everything in my power to make the ride as safe and as joyful as possible.

I will be the headlights lighting the way, the seatbelt keeping you secure, the radio you can sing along to, the heat when you are cold, the fuel when you feel empty, and the air bag when you crash.

I know you will do the same for me and that no matter how long our journey, we will savor every moment together and every memory created along the way.

Hard Truths

She wishes she had never believed the lies.
That she had seen the danger behind kind eyes.
Now she is forced to deal with his subterfuge.
To deal with the aftermath of hard truths.

Hard truths,
She wraps like candy,
Too sweet to swallow,
But she forces them down.

Hard truths,
No mother wants to tell,
But she smiles wide and delivers,
Like nothing is wrong.

Hard truths,
That leave her shattered,
But her smile never falters,
Offering comfort though she has none.

Hard truths,
She repeats to herself as they lay sleeping,
The sweetness faded,
They are bitter on her tongue.

Hard truths,
She must accept them,
So in the darkness her tears escape,
They wash her wounds clean.

Hard truths,
She has embraced them,
They have fortified her,
She is more than he believed.
